Storm Front (The Dresden Files #1)A friend of mine recommended these books. All he told me was “there’s a wizard, technology fails around him, there are currently fifteen books in the series and you need to read all of them.”
He was right.
Ragnarok, Volume 1Happy Throwback Thursday everyone! Let’s talk about a very old manga that has graced my husband’s bookshelf since our middle school days. Ragnarok, Volume 1 by Myung-Jin Lee was the first manga he ever managed to convince my mother-in-law was appropriately priced despite the book’s real lack of words in the traditional sense.
So, for a manga that’s been tucked away between multiple volumes of Black Cat and Trigun for the past almost twenty years, how is it?
The Hero of Ages (Mistborn #3)Returning to the world of Vin, Elend and the rest of Kelsier’s crew was enjoyable and it kept me hooked on this series. The action is still there, the characters are still well written and the story only gets more complicated from here on out.
If you haven’t read the first two books…go back and do that before reading on. The story picks up after the previous book left off. From here on out there are SPOILERS.
The Well of Ascension (Mistborn #2)Returning to the world of Vin, Elend and the rest of Kelsier’s crew was enjoyable and it kept me hooked on this series. The action is still there, the characters are still well written and the story only gets more complicated from here on out.
Heir ApparentHeir Apparent by Vivian Vande Velde is the story of fourteen-year-old Giannine who becomes trapped within a video game which shares the book’s title. I actually read this book when it was first released way back in 2002. I’d found it on the new release shelf in the library, brought it home, and absolutely loved it. Recently, I found a copy in a used book store and felt it was high time for a reread.
The Final Empire (Mistborn #1)Authors who are capable of writing from multiple point of views are impressive and Brandon Sanderson is fantastic at doing just that. When recommended this book series by a friend I was told that there’s a badass female main character with powers and trust issues. Sold.
Wish, Vol. 1
Drums of AutumnWe are at book four in this series and now I find myself starting to, sadly, wane in my love for the series. This book, to date, is as far as I’ve read and I need a bit of a break after this one as I’m slightly disappointed in this book and, truthfully, I need to find time to read the books that follow this one. Spoiler alerts ahead, once again.
Slayers: The Ruby EyeSlayers: The Ruby Eye is the first book in the Slayers series by Hajime Kanzaka. Originally published in Japan in 1996, the translation was published eight years later in 2004 by Tokyopop. The story is centered on fifteen year old sorceress Lina Inverse and her newfound traveling companion Gourry Gabriev, a swordsman. A simple plundering of a bandit’s hideout for some loot has unforeseen and far reaching consequences for Lina, including a whole lot of people that would really rather see her dead.
Throwback Thursday: VoyagerWill life every be easy for Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser? The obvious answer is no, of course not. In this book we once again pick up where we left off and we once again see Jamie trying to recover from injuries while Claire struggles to find her answers in the modern world and make a decision that will effect her and her daughter’s lives. Spoiler alerts ahead, once again.
