It took longer than I expected, but I’ve filled in all of the challenges I’ve completed so far this year. While this wasn’t difficult, it was a little time consuming. Several of the manga I’ve read could potentially fill more than one challenge, but I wanted to limit it to one right now. For completions sake I might use one manga for multiple categories, but I wanted to see what I managed without relying on grouping challenges together first.
Tomorrow's KinThere is nothing quite as satisfying as finally finishing a book you’ve had your eye on at the library. It’s an almost mystical experience – on one hand you know that book will always be there, until, that is, the exact moment you go to check it out at the front desk and it’s inevitably been borrowed by someone else only a few short days ago. And so begins my tale of reading Tomorrow’s Kin by Nancy Kress, the first book in the Yesterday’s Kin Trilogy.
Goldfisch Vol. 2The second volume of Golfisch is being released tomorrow, April 24, 2018 by TokyoPop. After reading Volume 1 a few months ago, I was extremely excited to dig into the next volume. Goldfisch Vol 2 by Nana Yaa is just as fun as the first volume, and a great read for fans of shonen.
One WayMurder mysteries set in space is quickly becoming a subgenre I never knew I needed in my life. After reading Gunpowder Moon by David Pedriera, I knew I needed to read One Way. One Way by S. J. Morden, a fast paced near future science fiction murder mystery story.
Void Black ShadowAfter reading Killing Gravity I immediately sought out the next book in the series. Void Black Shadow by Corey J. White is the second book in the Voidwitch Saga, and a great second installment to the series.
Cutie Honey a Go Go!I was intrigued when I saw another Cutie Honey manga was going to be released. Honestly, I’m always intrigued when another edition of an older franchise has been released. So I got my hands on a copy as soon as I could to see what the latest incarnation of Cutie Honey was all about. Cutie Honey a Go Go! is a new standalone manga in the Cutie Honey franchise by Go Nagai, Itou Shinpei, and Anno Hideaki.
An Unkindness of GhostsIt has been a very long time since any book has made me want to pick up my old quote journal and copy lines down. The journal isn’t pretty. It’s not one of those moleskin bullet journals, just a pocket sized notebook an old teacher gave us with some inspirational quotes after high school graduation. I’m not sure where it is now. I never thought I’d go looking for it again. But An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon made me want to dig that notebook out and copy down lines right from chapter 1.
I’m not very good at beginning reading challenges on their start date. I have a bad habit of finding a challenge that sounds amazing, making a mental note to join in and write a blog post about it, and then forgetting about the reading challenge until it shows up in my social media feed again. Such is the case with the #ReadManga18 Challenge by Manga Hoarder.
I might have discovered this month long reading challenge late, but it’s definitely one I will be participating in. April 2nd to April 29th is the OWL Reading Challenge. This reading challenge is hosted by Gintare over at Book Roast. It’s been some time since I’ve stumbled on a readathon or reading challenge and gotten this excited about it. Despite being late, I just knew that I had to join in.
The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Omnibus, Book 2Horror manga is a genre I have long loved, starting with Junji Ito’s work. More recently I discovered The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service by Eiji Otsuka. Funnily, once I was finished with the first volume of the omnibus and ready to purchase the second volume it was out of stock on nearly every website I usual frequent for manga purchases. Thankfully, my brother works at a bookstore and was able to snag a copy! The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service Omnibus Book 2 is a great horror manga that more people should read.
