I like shonen. I also like sports manga. Although, to be honest, I like just about all manga. This week I started a new series titled Karate Heat by Eiichi Kitano, a title I was previously unfamiliar with. This is a shonen manga about karate, hard work, and friendship.

Go For It, Nakamura! was a very adorable manga. It’s a cute slice-of-life boy’s love comedy story. The main character is Nakamura, a high schooler who fell instantly in love with the cute, outgoing boy in his class on the first day of school. Unfortunately, Nakamura doesn’t know Hirose, not really. His goal? Overcome his shyness and klutzy habits, introduce himself, and become Hirose’s friend. After that, well, maybe then he can confess his true feelings.

Lumberjanes never fails to put a smile on my face, and my local library never fails to have another volume to borrow. Lumberjanes Vol. 3 follows our favorite cabin of girls at Lumberjanes camp through several short stories. Ghost stories are told. Riley is her usual fun, ridiculous self. And Mal and Molly go on a super cute picnic date.

Sometimes a spin off series just doesn’t entertain me the way the original did, so I was just a little hesitant to start My Hero Academia: Vigilantes. All my worries were over nothing, though, as this is one of the absolute best spin off series I’ve encountered. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and illustrated by Betten Court is a fantastic series that all fans of My Hero Academia and superhero stories at large should read.

Review – Skin Folk: Stories by Nalo Hopkinson

Skin Folk: Stories
By: Nalo Hopkinson
Release Date: January 27, 2015
Publisher: Open Road Media
Award: World Fantasy Award for Best Collection (2002); Sunburst Award (2003)
Rating:

I love short story collections. I also love fantasy. So this week I picked up a copy of Skin Folk: Stories by Nalo Hopkinson over on Hoopla. Despite this collection of short stories winning the World Fantasy Award for Best Collection in 2015, I was not familiar with the author or her other works. I was intrigued, and quickly dived into the book. This is a fantastic collection of stories – mostly fantasy, some horror, and a few stories which were written in a more contemporary style.

Review – The Rig by Roger Levy

The Rig
By: Roger Levy
Release Date: May 8, 2018
Publisher: Titan Books
Received From: Publisher
(All reviews are our own, honest opinions.)
Rating:

This book took a little longer than I thought it would, partially because it’s a whopping 615 pages long. The Rig by Roger Levy kept me hooked for every single page, though. Even as the days begin to turn to weeks since I’ve finished it the story has stayed with me, and I find myself thinking about it more as time goes on. It’s been some time since a book has stayed with me in quite this way, and I think I might have found a new favorite.

Telling me there are time travel aspects to a book might be one of the quickest ways to get me to read a book. I’m a sucker for a good time traveling story. And that is certainly a major aspect of The Gone World by Tom Sweterlitsch.
