So. Sports manga. It’s a genre I’ve only recently began reading in earnest, and I have to say that I’m now a fan. Ping Pong Dash! Vol 1 by Shingo Honda is part sports manga and part contemporary school manga. It’s the story of a Yankee who winds up joining the tennis club and includes great ping pong matches, memorable main characters, and fight scenes. There’s a lot packed into this volume, and a lot to enjoy, so lets take a look at the first volume in this manga series. The story is about Haruku Tendo, a Yankee who winds up joining the ping pong club.

I haven’t read a book I had this much fun with in a long while. River of Teeth by Sarah Gailey is simply pure fun, filled with wonderfully memorable characters, and lots of hippos. It’s the sort of book you can get lost in, the one you can’t wait to finish but don’t want to end.

My TBR Pile and How I Read

Ah, the backlog of books I’ve been itching to read. Those wonderful tomes with fantastic premises that I haven’t gotten to, the ones that stare at me from the shelf as I put them off for anime or video games or woodworking. How exactly do you choose which book comes next? What book do you choose when you’ve had fifteen you want to read next, definitely next, because they’re from your favorite author or are the next in your favorite series or this book was the one you’ve been waiting to release all year.

I was intrigued when I saw TokyoPop licensed a new manga, so I made sure I grabbed a copy as soon as I could. Hanger Vol 1  by Hirotaka Kisaragi is a yaoi near-future manga with just a hint of a buddy cop story feel at certain points.[/drocap]

A Big Ship at the Edge of the Universe combines magic with traditional science fiction adventure in a fantastically fun adventure that all fans of genre fiction will enjoy. High stakes, tons of action, and a very memorable cast of characters make this one of the most enjoyable reads of the summer. I loved this book, and already I’m looking forward to the second book in this wonderful new series.
