The Asylym for Wayward Victorian GirlsAn intriguing cover. An interesting premise. What really made me pick this book? The sale it was included in, for a cheap purchase on my Kindle. Between the sale and the slightly intriguing premise about two women, both trapped in mental asylums centuries apart, I was curious how their stories would connect and intertwine. We’ve all found great stories on the discount cart so why not on the virtual discount cart, right?
Apparently me and my reading slumps have a pattern. This time last year I posted an article about the troubles of reading slumps. And, where am I again? In a reading slump. Maybe there’s something about the months of April and May for my brain that says it’s not the time to read? Maybe it’s because for years these were the months at school full of test prep, final papers and projects and the final push to the end of the year. For now, that’s my theory. However, in an attempt to battle back I’m revisiting my own advice and seeing what may help snap me out of this year’s slump!

Between commuting and health issues (migraines) I’ve found myself unable to do much reading and even less work on the computer when I’m home because my brain simply would not allow it. The way around this-audio books! I swear, as time goes on this medium has kept me going and enjoying my time without straining my eyes and brain which is a great relief. Now, onto the reason we’re all here – THE BOOKS.
Every year bookworms everywhere take stock of the books they finished reading over the last 365 days and make a new goal for what they hope to accomplish this upcoming year. I am no different but I must admit I was disappointed in myself this past year as I barely reached my minimal reading goal and definitely did not write enough reviews this past year either. The reason for all of this? Reading slumps. What did I do to try and break out of this? Keep reading to find out!
What is it about fall that makes people turn to horror novels? Is it the crisp air? The desire to be curled up under a blanket? Or, is it really all to do with Halloween? For me I have never enjoyed the horror genre as much as I do when fall rolls around and it seems appropriate to read these dark and ghastly tales. I certainly am not the only one, right?
Priceless (Rylee Adamson #1)Another series, another loose cannon Private Investigator with supernatural abilities. Despite how much this sounds like the Dresden files (and some of the blatant similarities) I found myself able to look past it and enjoy the first book the series.
