It Happened One Doomsday by Laurence MacNaughton is a fast paced urban fantasy and the first book in a new series.

Overall, this is the sort of book I normally keep on hold until there are a few more in the series, and then binge read them all at once over the course of a weekend. Of course, there’s only one title in the series so far, meaning it wasn’t an option this time. The book is a quick read, filled with action and plenty of banter between characters.

The pacing is fast. Events unfold quickly, sweeping the reader into a high stakes, action packed story. The momentum does slow towards the very end of the book. While the pacing here isn’t really any slower than the first chapter, it did feel a little jarring at the time due to the constant motion of the majority of the book.

The characters were fun and relatable. Witty banter abounds in this novel, making dialogue a ton of fun to read. I am interested in seeing where some of the relationships between the characters go in future novel.

It Happened One Doomsday by Laurence MacNaughton is a fun, quick read. I’d like to see where the author takes the next installment of the series, and would recommend it to fans of paranormal and urban fantasy.
